From June 26th to June 30th, two experts from the German Import Promotion Desk (IPD) are conducting a Fact Finding Mission in Cambodia to assess the possibility of making Cambodia an official IPD Partner Country. During the mission, IPD is not only visiting local ministries and business chambers such as EuroCham and GBC, but also more than half a dozen companies all across the country. GBC is delighted to have facilitated and accompanied a large number of these visits.

On June 22nd, the welcoming ceremony of the new country director of Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) in Cambodia, Mr. Jason Chumtong, was held at Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh. The event also marked the farewell of longstanding country director Mr. Daniel Schmücking, who after five years in Cambodia is now going to Berlin to head the Political Communication Department and Adenauer Campus of the foundation.

GBC was pleased to welcome a delegation from German Industry and Commerce (AHK) Vietnam on June 14th for talks in Phnom Penh. The delegation was lead by Mr. Marko Walde, Chief Representative at AHK Vietnam, who arrived with his regional management team. Topics included, among other things, opportunities for upcoming cooperation between the two business chambers.

On May 24, 2023, the Cambodia-Japan Digitalised Manufacturing Centre (CJDM) celebrated its Open House ceremony on the campus of the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP). RUPP is cooperating with Japanese-German CNC machine tool manufacturer DMG MORI to offer highly specialized training courses in engineering and manufacturing to future Cambodian engineers, using several state-of-the-art machine tools provided by the company.

President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Cambodia February 13-15, marking the first time a German head of state has visited the Kingdom. Mr. Steinmeier first traveled to Siem Reap, where he visited Angkor Wat and German-financed mine clearance activities, before traveling to Phnom Penh to partake in economic and diplomatic dialogues with Prime Minster Hun Sen and other politicians and government officials.

On January 18, 2023, German cleaning technology specialist and GBC member Kärcher opened its new Kärcher Center and HQ for Cambodia in Phnom Penh. The German family owned business started out in Cambodia in 2017 with just eight employees. Today, the new Kärcher Center represents the success the company has had in the country and shows its positive sales projections for the Cambodian market.

European companies from all sectors and business areas with activities in developing and emerging countries that demonstrate an engagement beyond commercial interests are eligible to apply for the German Entrepreneurship Award for Development 2023.
